If you’re partying in Mississippi and you hear the beat drop followed by Luck’s infamous “uh uh” this is universal Ju code for ; the party is about to enter the next level. If these sounds have met your ears before, then you’re familiar with Jackson, MS artist Hollywood Luck. An artist of many talents, from producing to songwriting, Hollywood Luck has built a loyal fan base throughout MS and surrounding areas. Luck is a Mississippi favorite responsible for multiple hits including, Pole in my pants, Dance in that, and Better get they B*****. There is no question why Luck has managed to snatch 4 statewide awards for Artist of the Year four consecutive years in a row. Luck’s versatility on and off the stage creates his sui generis persona. Luck is not only comfort food to Jackson natives, but he also has a pretty impressive resume. Luck has worked closely with artists such as ; David Banner , K. Kamp, Stuey Rock, Pimp C., BeatKing, Young Dro, Level, Lil Ronny MothaF, Boo Rossini, and Kamikaze to name a few. Recently, I was able to catch up with luck and chat about music for a second. Check out our conversation below:
- Who and what is on your playlist right now?
A variety of different music. From Jhene Aiko, Future, DVSN, Lil Uzi Vert, Chicago Mass Choir, etc. Just different vibes..
- Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
I’d have to say Pimp, C, Lil Wayne, T.I, The Dream & a few more. I’ve had many different influences. Different genres and people have influenced my overall sound/style.
- Close your eyes and describe to me an ideal work environment for you.
Candles…Darkness. Love. The vibes are always great when love’s around.
- What are some of your favorite records on the radio now? I don’t really listen to radio so I definitely don’t have a favorite track right now.
- What are your thoughts on the current state of Hip Hop? What do we need? Or is everything moving along as it should?
Hip Hop is evolving. It’s growing daily. There are some things I don’t like, maybe because I don’t understand them, however I don’t personally agree with. We just need people to express themselves. That’s what it’s about. What it’s for. So I think we’re moving in a good direction.
- Who are some artists you aspire to collab with in the near future?
There are too many to name. I definitely wanna work with Wayne, Drake, Future, & probably a few R&B cats. TY$, The Dream, and a few more. As well as producers. They’re/we’re artist too.
- Do you have any upcoming projects to inform us of?
I have a lot of music just sitting on the computer. I’m going to focus a little more on promoting the music I have. That’s said to be one of my weaknesses. The music is the easy part for me. My next project will most likely be “A Different World.” It’s basically done but I’m sure I’ll add some things as long as I continue to hold it.
- What’s one thing you want the people to know about you?
That I’m extremely passionate about my art. And sensitive too. Sometimes the music may not show how much love is put into it. Or you may overlook it… & that I’m all about the love. Always.
